Kneedeep N Custard came within two-fifth’s of a second from matching the all-time track record Friday evening at Fraser Downs thanks to his 1:50.4 triumph in the $12,000 Open Handicap for pacers.

Trainer/driver Kelly Hoerdt got away last with Kneedeep N Custard while race favourite Tiempo Hanover shot to the top and whizzed through wicked fractions of :27, :54 and 1:21. Hoerdt had his charge on the move from last while a little more than a final quarter of the contest remained, and thanks to a :29-second closing kick Kneedeep N Custard was able to draw away to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Tiempo Hanover in 1:50.4. Armycaptin Hanover was third.

Hoerdt co-owns the five-year-old son of Custard The Dragon-Art Amour with Blair Corbeil and Fred Gilbert. The partner watched the gelding win for the second time this season and for the 22nd time in his career. The $6,000 payday pushed the pacer’s career earnings past $250,000.

The victory was one of four training scores on the 10-race card for conditioner Hoerdt. He also clicked with Flash A Smile (1:53.1), Overactive (1:55.4) and Im Too Sexy (1:56).
