More details have emerged on Woodbine Racetrack's redevelopment into the multi-faceted entertainment hub originally unveiled for the Rexdale, Ont. location last April.

The architectural plans for the first phase are now in the public record, with some new conceptual renderings also presented. This submission pertains to Blocks 9 and 10 of Woodbine's master plan, located on the north side of the campus and directly east and west of Queen's Plate Drive.

"Block 9 would see a mix of new retail, landscaped areas, and at-grade parking," noted urban development website Urban Toronto. "Construction of four retail buildings, ranging between one and three storeys, would add 6,440 square metres of shopping to the site. Two buildings would front on Queens Plate Drive, two would be front the new walking circle, and be linked by a covered exterior walkway with exposed wood beams."

To the east of Block 9, Block 10 "would contain the largest buildings in the redevelopment, totalling 98,556 square metres over the five new facilities. The northern portion of this site would contain a 10,647 square metre three-storey performance venue. Connected south of this will be a 48,343 square metre 2-storey entertainment building containing a casino with retail and restaurants, bars and lounges, along with 2-storey retail and casino administration offices."

The southern part of the site would feature mirror image 12-storey hotel towers connecting Block 10 with the existing grandstand. Overlooking the racetrack, the hotels would feature 419 rooms and 547 rooms, respectively.

According to Urban Toronto, the City of Toronto is currently reviewing rezoning and site plan applications as well as an application for expansion of gaming services to permit table gaming at Woodbine.
