Royal Renegade Repeats In BC

Paul Sanders and Christine Cutting’s Royal Renegade ($8.60) used identical tactics to reach the Fraser Downs winner’s enclosure as he did a fortnight prior, as he made all the pace en route to a 1:52.1 repeat score in Sunday afternoon’s (March 18) $12,000 Open Pace amid balmy 10-degree air.

Dave Hudon wasted absolutely no time putting the six-year-old JK Royal Flush gelding in play, sending him to the fore from the outside post 5. Royal Renegade travelled unchallenged through the entire one-mile journey, controlling fractions of :26.3, :56.3, and 1:24.1 before gaining 2-1/2 lengths of separation on the far turn. While Cool Cowboy (Jim Marino) emerged from third to pose a mild upper-stretch threat, Royal Renegade held sway smartly and prevailed by 1-3/4 lengths. Cool Cowboy narrowly took second over fellow Kelly Hoerdt trainee Iwontdothatagain (Hoerdt), who was one-paced from the pocket.

Justin Currie trains Royal Renegade, who earned his fourth win of 2018 and the 18th of his career.
