With opening day at Woodbine, Mohawk Park slated for April 12, renovations to the Milton oval continue in preparation for hosting year-round harness racing.

Last summer, the Woodbine Entertainment Group (WEG) announced that Mohawk Racetrack would become the permanent home for harness racing, vacating Woodbine Racetrack of standardbreds as part of a rebranding campaign. Woodbine Racetrack will now host only thoroughbreds, while Mohawk Racetrack was renamed to Woodbine at Mohawk Park and then Woodbine, Mohawk Park as part of the transition.

WEG has said that the renovations, estimated at $10-million, are dedicated to upgrades pertaining to winterization of the grandstand, race paddock and maintenance facilities, as well as new glass across the terrace dining area and the addition of VIP Suites.

The images of the progress which appear below were posted to social media by WEG's publicity department over the past few months.

Great to see Mohawk getting these renovations, but drop the Woodbine please and thank you.

Why have Woodbine in the name? If you're separating the Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds, separate them as Mohawk Park or Mohawk Raceway - forget the word Woodbine.

Woodbine, Mohawk Park? Why can't it be named just Mohawk Park? Or keep it as Mohawk Raceway?

Woodbine is synonymous with thourouhbred racing in Toronto, always has been and always will be.
I think Mohawk Park would suffice for a name.
The industry is always looking for new owners, why not open the barns again at Mohawk, like the T-breds and cut some costs that have been passed on to owners with NO benefits to them, like stall rent and shipping - which adds up to thousands of dollars every month.

Positive news for the race industry with the MOHAWK reno progress update images being posted by WEG publicity department via social media, i hope the ALBERTA race industry starts getting some construction image updates for the CENTURY MILE.
