NY Off-Track Testing Upheld

It has been reported that on Thursday, December 18, the New York State Court of Appeals voted 6-0 in favour of continuing to allow off-track testing for ‘illicit, speed-enhancing substances’ in racehorses.

An article on the decision by Newsday explains that the state’s racing and wagering board will still be allowed to test racehorses well ahead of the date that the horses are scheduled to perform in pari-mutuel dashes.

The report also explains that trainers, owners and the state’s Standardbred owners association had filed suit over the matter, taking the position that practice of off-track testing exceeded the authority of the racing and wagering board.
