Six Straight For Intended Royalty

Despite being saddled with the outside post 7 in Sunday's (Nov. 29) featured $2,000 winners-over pace at Truro Raceway, Intended Royalty ($3.50) ran his current winning streak to six — but it was no Sunday stroll through the park for Nova Scotia's hottest pacer.

Redmond Doucet put the nine-year-old No Pan Intended gelding in play at the outset of the one-mile journey, leaving for early cover behind Euchred (Walter Walker) but ending up relegated to the breeze after Euchred cleared Rusty Riley (Paul Langille) at the end of a :27.3 first quarter. Undeterred, Intended Royalty ground up alongside Euchred to force a :56.1 half before working his way into the lead with five-sixteenths to go.

While Intended Royalty gained command from Euchred nearing three-quarters in 1:26, Euchred gave his all to keep his nemesis parked through the entire far turn. Intended Royalty responded in kind, beginning to edge away — albeit mildly — at the top of the short Truro stretch and evading a late push from the second-over Daddy Let Me Drive (Rodney Gillis) to win by a length in 1:56.2. Euchred finished third.

Trainer Randy Copley co-owns 49-time winner Intended Royalty with Edward Copley.
