Bulldog Tenacity ($7.40) was sent off as the slight second choice for Leamington Raceway’s $4,800 Preferred Pace on Sunday (October 22), and those that backed the gelding had a smile on their face when all was said and done.

The 11-year-old son of Rambaran started from Post 4 in the program’s featured dash, which went postward as Race 9. Driver Mark Williams sat fifth with the William Kirkpatrick trainee through the opening fractions, which were diced in :27.3 and :57.4.

Williams pulled Bulldog Tenacity in the third frame and was leading the overland charge in fourth by the time three quarters flashed to life in 1:27.4.

The duo was fourth, but less than two lengths in arrears, as the field hit the head of the lane. Bulldog Tenacity sustained his first-up journey through the final quarter and got up to post a three-quarters of one-length win in 1:58.

The Post 1 starter, Singhampton Kenny (driven by Tyler Borth), took a pocket ride in the mile and finished second. Grits N Gravy rolled the dice from the backfield and ended up third for driver Garrett Rooney.

Bulldog Tenacity is owned Kirkpatrick, who also bred the bay.
