Nogreatmischief The One To Beat On PEI

Published: October 11, 2017 07:37 pm EDT

Anyone aiming to prove victorious in the Thursday night (October 12) feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park needs to knock off Nogreatmischief in order to do it this week.

The 10-dash card gets underway at 6:30 p.m. with a tight-knit field of five pacers lining up in the $2,200 featured pace, carded as race nine. Nogreatmischief is the morning-line choice from post five with Walter Cheverie in the bike. The six-year-old son of Bettors Delight has been rock solid all season on P.E.I., earning a second-place finish in his latest while pacing in 1:54.4 at Red Shores Charlottetown. Cheverie, who trains the pacer, shares ownership with John Thompson.

Perfect Escape has post two in the field, fresh off two winning efforts for driver Gilles Barrieau and trainer Jackie Matheson. The ultra-consistent Oh To Be Me leaves from post three for owner-trainer-driver Gary Chappell.

Race analyst Les MacIsaac sees Nogreatmischief as the top entry despite his outside post in the field of five.

"Nogreatmischief didn’t quite get there last week, but it was close," MacIsaac said. "He gets an even more compact field (this week), great for his rallying style, and if he matches any of his recent efforts, the road to the winner’s circle could go through him."

Also in the Thursday feature field are Jeb (Jason Hughes) and Red Magician (Adam Merner).

The weekly Open trot features a field of five, with Dusty Lane Jacob getting top billing in the $1,850 class on the heels of 14 straight on-the-board finishes for trainer Cindy MacDonald, who co-owns the son of Nureyev with Tanya MacKinnon. Adam Merner drives the six-year-old who will look to capitalize on the absence of some of the top trotters on the East Coast. Other entries this week include Zip The Lip (Brian MacPhee), Wedgewood (Gary Chappell), Frill Seeker (Kenny Arsenault) and Professor Gordon (Terry Gallant).
